Having now run five courses in Newmarket and one in each of Epsom, Lambourn and Malton we are now in the process of organising more.

We did use the City of Bristol College who had overseen our courses before but due to problems at the College it is no longer viable or suitable to use them. This has left us searching and speaking to new providers and locally to Newmarket West Suffolk College.

In October I met with West Suffolk College to help set up courses for stable staff and am awaiting course dates and more information on funding for them. The current idea is for the following four courses to be run at The Racing Centre in Newmarket:

NASS Skills Course, (Basic IT, English, Maths)

Advanced IT Course

Mentoring and Leadership Course

ESOL (An English speaking course for foreign staff)

At the same time I have also been up to East Riding College in Beverley who ran the last course in Malton to discuss setting up similar courses in Malton’s Racing Welfare building. I am waiting for news on this.

So it has been a busy time organising and setting up more courses. If you would like a course run in your area please get in touch as we would like to reach all stable staff to give them an opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge and gain qualifications.

So far 77 people have taken part on our courses with 62 exams completed and passed. This has been great for us in promoting learning within our industry and as shown in our last newsletter helped people progress from riding out to other jobs within the industy. This is excellent for the wellbeing of staff who gain confidence and make for a happier workforce.
